Narrative structure of memento essays Someone trying to find out who killed someone close to them. Lots of possiblites of who it might actually be. Hard to follow as story is shown in different parts, for example the ending might be at the begging of the film, and we are shown how everything links to what happens. Possibly a simple story line but chosen to be viewed in a difficult narrative structure. As the audience would be watching this at the cinema, they have 100% focus on the film so that they can work out whats going on. There is not a lot of action in this film as that tends to distract the viewer and they lose focus on the plot. The film does have a classic narrative structure but is not shown in the usual way of beginning, middle then end, instead it reverses it and it become the end, middle and finally the beggining. This adds to the pleasure of the audience as they have to work out what is going on and they feel success when they work out what is going on. The way the film is shown is exactly how the main character will remember it as he suffers from no short term memory, this makes the audience sympathise with the main character. Also the significant object which is the Polaroids that he takes everywhere with him. This is how the film is shown, it may help to read this from bottom to top as thats how the srotyline actually is. LA, the present.
